Well the Premier Football Betting Handbook 2010/11 has now been out since early August, weighing in at a healthy 400 pages I find myself dipping in and out of the book periodically and anticipate that this book will be completely thumb worn by the end of the season.

Even now some of the findings still astound me and this book will certainly be a constant companion in my battle against the bookmakers in the forthcoming season.

So far the feedback on the book has been positive and the people I have spoke to seem to really enjoy the section on how to compile your own odds. In truth I think this is an essential skill to learn. Otherwise how do you know that you are backing a selection at the right price?

Throughout the season you will hear both Matt and me repeating the same mantra over and over again that you should not even consider placing a bet unless you are obtaining value.

And how do you know you are obtaining value?

By knowing how to price up a football match.

The betting industry must be the only industry where people are constantly falling into the trap of taking the wrong price. Punters on a weekly basis are continually backing red hot favourites in various accumulators at prices that simply do not reflect the real chances of the event happening.

This is the equivalent of going into a shop and paying £3 for a loaf of bread. Now anybody in their right mind would not do this, so why do they continually take such bad prices on offer with the bookmakers?

And the answer to that is they simply do not know the real price they should be backing at.
