    Who is Pete Nordsted?

    petenordsted

My name is Pete Nordsted and I am a full time Sports trader.

I first discovered Betfair whilst serving in Afghanistan with the Royal Air Force in 2003

Previous to this although I had an interest in Football and the related stats my only other trading interest was spread-betting the financial markets.

I soon realised that Betfair was effectively a stock exchange for sports and as I knew more about sport than I did about the financial state of various companies it seemed like a logical conclusion to pursue this alternative way of investing, so on my return to the UK I opened an account to see what the exchanges had to offer.

It wasn’t long before I discovered the joys of backing and laying and was soon experiencing the ‘green book’

However I was still making some terrible errors.

For example I was trading the horse racing pre race without really knowing what I was doing. I was putting a £1000 on the market pre race and then when the trade went against me I was letting the trade run in-play and was at times frantically trying to get myself out of trouble but the more I seemed to do the worse the situation got and on occasions I found that I was digging myself into further trouble.

I was also having stupid trades like placing £500 on 1.05 shots hoping to scalp the market looking for a £25 win and usually this ended up with some scary moments as the price more often than went out leaving me sweating out the last few overs of a cricket match hoping that the strong favoured side who had just lost a quick couple of could eventually cross the winning line.

it was then that I realised that although I was winning quite a few small amounts I was being hit by some incredibly big losses.

I then read on the Betfair Forum a professional trader stated that he could not understand those people who were putting at risk  a lot of money to win very little and he suggested that anybody who aspired to be a trader should spend a year watching and studying how the markets move and then come back and apply what they had learnt.

This struck a chord with me and this is exactly what I did and it is this work which led me to produce the newsletter and write Mastering Betfair.

if there is one thing that I have learnt from my experiences is that professional sport is hard to win and the value nearly always lies in opposing the short priced favourite.

So after improving my knowledge my profits improved dramatically so much so that I was then able to leave the Royal Air Force after 25 years to become a full time sports trader.

My specialities are trading football both pre match and in-play and I also trade cricket and tennis.

Whilst doing my research for football I found that I was specialising in the football markets and started looking at the stats in great depth and this led to me to start the Premier Betting service which I run with In-play football expert Danny Jaques.
